Reasons that make me a businessman

In this post, i talk about entrepreneual and other things that i’ve done that have earned me money, expectedly or unexpectedly.
My first business came when i was in primary school. I was not in much need for money. My mum gave me the business idea, to sell something that my friends would like to eat. I thought of making mandazi’s for sale but the thought of coming up with a whole production/cooking set put me off. The other option was to sell sugar canes. They were very popular with us kids. I personaly bought one every evening on my way from school and shared with friends. This business was easy, i bought canes on wholesale price at the market place and brought them home to sell at our compound gate. Passers by and my friends playing around were my main customer, their parents also bought occasionally. I made about 40 to 50 percent profit for each cane sold.
While in high school, i sold snacks from my locker box on a few occasions when the business conditions were favourable i.e. When students had disposable pocket money in the first month of the term. I and other merchants would sneak out of school, pretending we were going to a health dispensary located at the school’s market place, but instead, we would be going to the market place itself to source our supplies which in this case were snacks. They were wrapped in polythene sleaves. Each sleave had 10 snacks (‘kangumu’) that sold for kshs 5 each. That made a packet worth for kshs 50, and we bought it for kshs 40. I used to get kshs 5 profit because i would eat one snack for my teabreak. On normal days i’d finish my packet and sell out in hours when there was a games event at our school. Some other merchants who hawked their wares made more sales than me. Of the profit i obtained, i would buy myself sour milk for supper and forgo the overcooked veges that were served by the school, other times avocados did the trick. This business allowed me to let my pocket money, given by my parents, to rest with the school bursar. The task of selling was sometimes demanding, denying me time to play, study or hang with friends. I folded up the business when it became more risky than it was to sneak out of school. I’ll later talk about opportunity for business i net while in campus.
